I really like the analogy in these verses. The only way we can shine the brightest is if we are full of light and absent of darkness.
Prayer: Lord, help me be more aware of my eyes! And enlighten me through your word. Amen!

It seems to imply that either partially or fully darkness as a spiritual force can be our lamp, our direction or filter by which we perceive reality.
